Most elegant and rare early 19th Century mahogany Marine Stick Barometer in essentially original condition; the slender case, square in cross-section with bowed sides; the ring suspension over engraved brass maker's signature plate, and with matching silvered brass barometer and Fahrenheit thermometer register plates below, protected by hinged door. The trunk, mounted on brass gimbals, housing original barometer tube and terminating in rare turned ebonised boxwood three-part cistern.

Apprenticed to the renowned Jesse Ramsden, Jones quickly established an enviable reputation for himself, working primarily from premises in Charing Cross from1805 until 1861, ultimately gaining Fellowship of the Royal Society.
