A very attractive, and most unusual variant of a dwarf [6in. diameter] Georgian mahogany Wheel Barometer. The front-to-back ‘swan-neck’ pediment over slender case [unusually, mahogany veneered onto mahogany carcass], inset with above-the-norm detachable, engraved silvered brass hygrometer, Fahrenheit and Réaumur mercury thermometer, finely worked barometer dial, signed by the makers, with threaded bolt-secured bezel, and spirit level.

A renowned firm of Mathematical Instrument-makers [1798-1908], who operated, initially under the aegis of John Dring and William Fage, from premises in Tooley St., Southwark, gaining numerous Royal Commissions.
