Christmas Aiano - London. 18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer

Fine quality and well-proportioned late 18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer in essentially original condition; the large broken arch pediment, supported on side brackets, over finely engraved register plate, bearing Fahrenheit thermometer and manually-operated vernier slide; the trunk, veneered in well-patinated Cuban mahogany, edge moulded, and with exposed barometer tube terminating in turned cistern cover.

A prominent member of the Italian immigrant barometer making community, centred in Holborn, London, who settled in London around 1790, working until c1805.
