Fine Antique Barometers

John Merry Ronketti - London [5897]

Fine and rare, late 18th Century inlaid mahogany Wheel Barometer in essentially original condition. The richly patinated case with arched top, inlaid with three oval stylised fan paterae, with cross-grained side veneers, ‘rope’ effect banding around the edges and, unusually around the dial; inset with well engraved silvered brass Fahrenheit mercury thermometer and 8 inch diameter main barometer dial, signed by the maker, the protecting glass cover with rare wooden bezel. Original syphon tube and most unusual ivory wheeled mechanism.
c1790

One of the foremost and sought after barometer makers, who specialised in the engraving of barometer dials, Ronketti settled in Bloomsbury having emigrated from his native Italy in c1780
