Fine and rare, late
18th Century inlaid mahogany Wheel Barometer
in essentially original condition. The richly
patinated case with arched top, inlaid with
three oval stylised fan paterae, with cross-grained
side veneers, ‘rope’ effect banding
around the edges and, unusually around the dial;
inset with well engraved silvered brass Fahrenheit
mercury thermometer and 8 inch diameter main
barometer dial, signed by the maker, the protecting
glass cover with rare wooden bezel. Original
syphon tube and most unusual ivory wheeled mechanism.

One of the foremost and sought
after barometer makers, who specialised in the
engraving of barometer dials, Ronketti settled
in Bloomsbury having emigrated from his native
Italy in c1780
