Fine and rare, late
18th Century inlaid mahogany Wheel Barometer,
the break-arch pediment over case, inlaid with
unusual, large oval conch shell and twin round
stylised flower-head paterae, cross-grained,
chequer strung and inset with finely decorated
engraved silvered brass Fahrenheit thermometer
and 8-inch diameter barometer dial, signed by
the maker.

Gatty was one of the earliest
– and most accomplished - of the London-based
Italian immigrant barometer makers, who operated
from premises at 79 Holborn from around 1780-1810
after which he moved to Broad St., Reading.
