Singular and most elegant
18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer; the broken
arch pediment, centred by unusual urn shaped
finial, over engraved, silvered brass register
plates, signed by the maker, with unusual notation
for 29.5in –i.e. “Various”(!)
Manually adjustable vernier. The case extensively
cross-banded in Cuban mahogany, with original
exposed barometer tube terminating within classic
turned cistern cover.

The Yeates family of Instrument-makers,
founded by Samuel in 1780 on Upper Ormond Quay,
soon became leading Irish makers, prospering
well into the 20th Century.
