Fine Antique Barometers

Dollond - London

Classically elegant Georgian mahogany Stick Barometer; the 'break-arch' pediment over engraved silvered brass register plate signed by the maker and bearing manually operated vernier slide. The trunk, of finely figured and well-patinated ‘Cuban’ mahogany, edge-moulded and with original cistern tube terminating behind hemispherical cover.

c1780

Perhaps the most renowned barometer maker, the firm of Dollond was founded in the mid 18th Century by Peter [who became Instrument Maker and Optician to King George II and III] and which flourished until its acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
