Good quality early
19th Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer
with ‘swan-neck’ pediment over signed,
engraved silvered brass register plate bearing
manually operated vernier slide and protected
by glazed door. The trunk, edge moulded, ebony
strung and veneered in figured mahogany with
original concealed barometer tube terminating
behind turned cistern cover.

Perhaps the most renowned
of barometer makers, the firm of Dollond was
founded in the mid 18th Century by Peter Dollond
[who became Instrument Maker and Optician to
King George II] and which enjoyed international
acclaim until its acquisition by Aitchison in
1913.
