Impressive and unusual 18th
Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer in original
condition; the ‘break-arch’ pediment,
with original urn-shaped brass finial, over
engraved silvered brass register plate, signed
by the makers and bearing unusual manually operated
vernier. The trunk, of rare and delicately figured
"plum-pudding" mahogany, edge moulded,
and with original exposed barometer tube terminating
within original hemispherical cistern cover.

Edward Nairne and his former apprentice Thomas
Blunt earned a formidable international reputation
for producing high quality scientific instruments,
especially barometers.
