Excellent quality 18th Century mahogany
Stick Barometer, the broken arch pediment over
exposed well-engraved silvered brass register
plate, signed by the maker and bearing manually
operated vernier slide. The trunk, of ‘flame’
mahogany, edge moulded and inset with long Fahrenheit
thermometer, concealing ‘bayonet’
barometer tube terminating behind turned hemispherical
cistern cover.

immigrant barometer makers, who settled in Holborn,
London around 1780, working from premises in
Ely Court.
