Good quality and unusual, mid 19th
Century rosewood cased ‘Improved Sympiesometer’
– No. 2419; the ‘ogee’ pediment
over finely engraved silvered brass register
plates, signed by the maker and protected by
bevelled glass, bearing sympiesometer and Fahrenheit
thermometer tubes - both original -, unusual
rack-and-pinion operated sliding barometer scale
and circular register plate to the base. .

Winter was an accomplished instrument maker,
who, together with his son and grandson, operated
from premises at 21 and 55 Grey St. from 1838-96.
